Day 49-51 Yap, Micronesia

Another Formal night, this one with a Medieval theme.  There is a guest speaker on board who is giving a history of the US space program – very interesting!  Had to miss the Speed WIne Tasting today – another 3 days to go! I started going to the fitness center for an hour and decreased the daily walk to 2 miles per day. Got to make sure I don’t put on any extra weight!Dining Greeter

Arrived on Yap Island February 24th! 2014-02-24_083711_7359

These were our greeters as we entered the town of Colonia.  Rented a van with another couple and travelled the island. It’s a divers paradise. The place is full of coral reefs and WWII war wrecks. It’s a place with lush vegetation and a combination of old ways and new.  They still have “men houses” and “women houses”.  These are the public meeting places for the tribe’s men and women. Toured the island and saw the local tribes weaving baskets and making parts for their boats. Saw the old airport – which looks like it probably did after WW II. – old, falling apart, and engulfed in jungle.  We got back to the town of Colonia and stopped at the Manta Ray Bay Hotel for lunch on a converted Chinese Junket. Then it was off to see the tribal war dance and back to the ship and three days sailing towards Manila.
