Had an interesting day- met Terry French from Evansville, IN. He happens to be the Celebrity Chef on board. Met him at breakfast as we were trying to get coffee. He said he grew up in Evansville and I said I grew up in Boonville. We talked about the area for a while. He said he had not been back there for many years. Later I ran into him at the Crow’s Nest along with his friend Rocky. Well, wouldn’t you know it, but Rocky has property in South Lake Tahoe and is very familiar with Minden, Gardnerville and Genoa. The area where I reside now. What are the chances!!!
Tried myself out on a new activity – Airplane toss. I can’t believe I had forgotten how to make a paper airplane! At least I wasn’t the only one! The Sip and Savor wine and appetizer pre-dinner is getting better by the day. A great group of people!
I am still getting my 5 km. walk in each sea day. I ended up just in time for a great sunset last night! I captured it on my cell phone, so now I have to download it to my laptop.
This morning we were piloted through some islands along the barrier reef. Some are uninhabited and others are resort islands for the “rich and famous”. Today the menu was Australian delicacies – Emu, Crocodile, and Kangaroo. One lady going through the food line asked if they had any “real meat”. Some people!
Got only 2 miles in today. Getting a “dig” in my side and then having all the muscles around my waist tighten up. Maybe I should get checked by the ship’s doc. The uncomfort lasted through dinner so I turned in early. Tomorrow will be disembarking at Cairns and off on the Great Barrier Reef Adventure!
Came into Cairns about an hour late due to the tide. The water was not deep enough at 7:00AM. We disembarked for the Reef Trip from the bay side of the ship directly onto the tour boat. It was about 1.5 hours to the Great Barrier Reef area and onto a pontoon barge from which all the activities were to be provided. I got into a lycra suit for protection from jelly fish and jumped into the water to snorkel. I got that jab in the side after about 10 minutes and had t0 head back to the barge. I did however take a ride on a glass bottom boat and a semi-sub boat to see the coral and fish below. Definitely better than the the coral in Maui! We got back to the ship just before 5PM and I went out into the town of Cairns to take a look around. Stopped into the BA8 Grill for a wine to spend my last 5 Australian dollars. We departed at 7:30 PM towards Papua New Guinea.
